Molly, what do you do at the bookshop?
I'm the Sales Floor Manager. Which is weird, because…why not the ceiling, too?
You recently started in June of 2022 but also previously worked here in 2016. What made you come back?
This was, and is, my favorite job ever! I love everyone I work with and being able to represent an independent bookstore with longevity like Maria's Bookshop. And now, under Evan's ownership, I'm excited to be a part of the team that gets to decide where we go in the next 40 years.
What’s your go-to genre? True Crime, Thriller, Narrative Non-Fiction. The sadder, the better. But I can recommend light reads, too.
What are You Reading Right Now? I’m reading a couple books right now: My Murder, a cool dystopian thriller that comes out later this year; and Off the Edge, about conspiracy theories and why our brains are wired to believe them.
How and when do you read? Whenever, wherever I can. I’ll always have a book on me and an e-reader…or two, actually.
Preferred Method of Bookmarking: Whatever is easiest and closest at hand, but I do have a huge collection of bookmarks from bookstores I visit when I travel and about 150 Maria’s bookmarks!
Favorite Book Quote: “We are all subject to the fates. But we must all act as if we are not.”, and “Was there only one world, after all, that spent its time dreaming of others?” Both from His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
Best Book Recommendation You’ve Received: Psalm for the Wild-Built
What Book Have You Re-read the Most? His Dark Materials
Name a book you wish others would read: Everyone in America should read The 1619 Project.
