SUMMARY:Meet the Author\: Novelist Kirk Farber
DESCRIPTION:
Kirk Farber's Postcards from a Dead Girl\, has Garth Stein\, author of <a href=\\"http\://www.mariasbookshop.com/book/9780061537967\\" title=\\"art of racing in the rain\\">The Art of Racing in the Rain drawing comparisons to <a href=\\"http\://www.mariasbookshop.com/search/apachesolr_search/Chuck+Palahniuk\\" title=\\"Chuck Palahniuk\\">Chuck Palahniuk--one of our all-time favorite writers. We hope you'll join us for the opportunity to meet this up-and-coming author as he swings our way shortly after the release of his debut novel.

<p class=\\"MsoNormal\\">Sid Higgins\, a telemarketer at a travel agency\, is in the throes of a crisis. His sales are down (though his boss maintains maddening optimism)\; he thinks he might have a brain tumor\; his deceased mother is talking to him from a Bordeaux bottle in the basement\; and his sister thinks he’s a hypochondriac and a nut. And if this was all that was bothering Sid\, it probably wouldn’t be so bad. Between the dulcet tones of the car wash\, the soothing weight of a mud bath\, and the companionship of his dog Zero\, he’d probably make it through. Instead\, what really eats at Sid is Zoe—his ex-girlfriend who disappeared a year ago\, and the postcards he suddenly begins receiving from her\, sent from countless exotic locations.

<p class=\\"MsoNormal\\">Farber takes us on a wild ride as Sid embarks on a journey to trace the origins of the postcards and maybe\, just maybe\, find Zoe. His search takes him from a New Jersey laundromat to a Barcelona discotheque\, but he’s always one step away from the truth. In his search for answers\, Sid befriends a postman named Gerald\, who becomes a kind of guide—at times seeming wise and serene\, and at others\, a little crazy.

Back home\, things are getting a little better. Sid’s CAT scan comes back clean\; his nighttime chats with mom become increasingly soothing\, and he even goes on a few tentative dates with a chatty woman named Candyce. But Sid just can’t get over Zoe. Will our hero Sid—damaged\, sweet Sid—ever find love again?
