Author, activist, lecturer and columnist Demetria Martinez will be at the College Ballroom of Fort Lewis College in Durango for the second annual Maxwell Silver Memorial Reading.  The event is free and open to the public, and Maria's Bookshop will provide books for sale.

Every November, tens of thousands of people take on National Novel Writing Month's challenge of writing a 50,000-word novel in thirty days.  It's an anti-contest writing contest, where the judges are missing, the prizes are lousy, and writers and non-writers alike have the time of their lives bashing out surprisingly unhorrible books in an absurdly short amount of time. 

Maria's Bookshop will host the "Thank God It's Over (TGIO) Celebration" for our region.  Other local NaNoWriMo events will take place throughout the month, providing support and inspiration for those involved.
